Few of our readers know that the creator of trams, sharply changing the nature of public transport, was the famous German company Siemens. And it happened more than 150 years ago!

But times are changing, the technique is being improved, vehicles built in a completely new principle of operation (trolleybuses, electric cars, metro, finally). The leadership positions remain unchanged that continues to occupy Siemens in the world! And now it came, it seems, time is a new unique and revolutionary solution. We are talking about a significant change in the appearance of freight traffic, while in the scale of one country. It is in Germany, and it is not surprising at all, put into operation (so far in test mode) the world’s first electrified highway. Through this highway, trucks equipped with electric motors can move. And charging batteries will be carried out during the movement of vehicles.

German authorities have already invested over 80 million euros in the project and continue to increase the investment package. The country’s leaders are confident that the active introduction of «green» technologies will solve the mass of environmental problems, including those related to the future global warming. But the decline in emissions into the atmosphere is only one, a pleasant news for ecologists. Siemens believe that the project has enormous prospects, as it will allow carriers in the near future to significantly save on fuel.

One of the founders of the leading high-tech concern Siemens was an engineer Werner von Siemens. It was he who developed in the first 1879 model of public transport, which subsequently became the prototype of a modern tram. At the industrial exhibition, the semi-chamber train was intended for riding and entertainment of visitors. A small locomotive has gained electricity from the third rail and pulled out three cars in which only 18 people were placed.

The speed of the composition was funny 6 km / h. But this fact did not prevent this Furior among the public, journalists and specialists. After all, the composition was moving without the use of horse thrust and steam car!

Siemens needed only 16 years to launch the world’s first tram line. Its total length range was only 2.5 km, but the composition was already moved with quite an acceptable speed — about 30 km / h.

In the period of time limited to the first and second world wars, the popularity of tram has sharply declined. The reason is simple and banal — the widespread distribution of buses, trolley buses and cars. Interest in some advanced countries of the world to trams began to manifest itself only a couple of decades ago. The reason is a sharp deterioration in the cities in cities, increased gaspace, noise, constant traffic jams, etc.

Practical implementation

A unique project in the company was worked out long enough. The first ideas were announced back in 2012, but the launch of EhighWay took place only after 7 years — 7 May 2019. Of course, no one has become a new way. To implement the pilot project, it was decided to reconstruct the A5 motorway site between the cities of Frankfurt and Darmstadt. Over the extreme right ranks on both sides of the road, electrical cables with a voltage of 670B were stretched. These cables attach their retractable pantographs (analogue of the tram «horns»), which allows trucks equipped with electric motors, charge on the go.

This system works, like all ingenious, easily and simple: Bhur Dolna take its place in the extreme right row and put forward pantographs before tapping wires. You can install the connection to the contact line right on the go, not exceeding the speed of 90 km / h.

The official representative of the Department of Earth of Hessen (namely, the new technology runs here) said that the trucks can not only drive in a straight line, but also to overtake, rebuilding to the adjacent strip and not disconnecting from the wires.

Interestingly, similar projects were worked out in other countries, such as the United States and Sweden. But it was in Germany that managed to achieve real high results.

For example, the Swedes developed a project at which the contact rail is installed directly in the roadway. Cars are equipped with a special current receiver.

The driver must first connect and only then start moving. After overcoming the electrified section, the truck should stop, disconnect and continue moving using the engine.

Americans, represented by Qualcomm, have developed a unique system that allows you to charge electrocars without physical contact with the network. The principle of operation of the system remotely resembles a wireless charging of gadgets.

Of course, now diesel engines are much superior to hybrid power units, first of all, according to parameters such as efficiency and efficiency. To successfully compete with internal combustion software, it is necessary to solve the problem of charging car batteries on the go. And then the delivery of goods from the point «A» to the item «B» will be more profitable for carriers both taking into account the temporary factor and in terms of economy!
