Overclocked version of Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 lit up on Geekbench

American chipmaker Qualcomm is preparing to release an updated version of its current flagship Snapdragon 888 chip. The improved model has already demonstrated its capabilities in a popular benchmark.

Our foreign colleagues found the test results of a certain chip codenamed Lahaina in the Geekbench benchmark database — this is what Qualcomm called the current Snapdragon 888, on the basis of which it is assumed that this is an improved model of the chip with the Plus prefix. As with previous flagship chips, the Snapdragon 888 Plus differs from the Snapdragon 888 in the overclocked processor. The updated chipset consists of a main Cortex-X1 core with a clock speed of 3 GHz instead of 2.84 GHz for the base model, three high-performance Cortex-A78 cores with a clock speed of 2.42 GHz and four energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores with a clock speed of 1.8 GHz … It is not specified whether the chip maker will make changes to the graphics accelerator of the updated platform.

Combined with 6GB of RAM, the overclocked Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus gave the Geekbench-tested device 1,171 points in the single core test and 3,704 points in the multi-core test.

When the official premiere of Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus will take place is still unknown. But, most likely, it will debut in the second half of this year and the release of the first devices based on it will not be long in coming.
