Variator — What is wrong with this type of transmission?

One of the most interesting inventions of the modern auto industry is stepless transmissions that increasingly began to install on modern cars. Such systems use many well-known car brands: Nissan, Mitsubishi, Renault, Citroen, Peugeot, etc.

Increased gentle-free gearboxes German engineers, but this type of transmission will receive the greatest distribution in Japan. Causes are the peculiarity of the local car industry, as well as other national and other differences that are not included in our small review.

At the same time, the variators are cheap in manufacturing and economical in operation. Such a successful combination seem to have to significantly strengthen the positions of such a transmission in the market. But many motorists with great suspicion belong to the variasts. And there is a number of reasons.

1) The reasons are the first: unpleasant «sound support». Almost every driver who traveled on a car with a variator in Russia or in any other country, notes unpleasant sounds when the box is running. It is noteworthy that the characteristic sound that makes a metal chain belt (namely it provides torque transmission) and rotating pulleys cones. The higher the load, the stronger this unpleasant characteristic sound. But the most unpleasant thing is that it spreads everywhere and passes through all types of isolation.

3) Increased sensitivity.
